First trip we was south bound, departed Whittier and returned into Vancouver. Second trip was a round trip out of Seattle. Both were 7-day and hit most of the same ports. I'd give a slight edge to the southbound because there was one less "fun day at sea", but both are worth while.
On the Seattle trip we went up a day early to see some sights there, had a good time.
Our favorite excursions were White Pass Railroad, Whale Watching, and The Mendenhall Glacier. Next time I want to take one of the smaller boats up to the glacier or possibly a helicopter tour.
The weather can be a little weird, first trip was cold and rainy, second trip was during a heat wave and it was 80 damn near the entire trip. We did a great deal of walking so be prepared for that.
ETA: you may want to change you thread title. Looks like you got the anchor. Also track down Roger he is a wealth of knowledge on Alaska from what I have read here.
