Thinking about trying this out. Just looking for advice to see if it's recommended, and if so, which is the best cruise line to take and any other recommendations about the trip itself.

I did a Holland America about five years ago and really enjoyed it. It was a one week (Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan) out of Seattle. Only downside is that it felt like almost three whole days were at sea, but one of those was through Glacier Bay, I think. There was a very brief stop in Victoria, BC on the way back, but barely enough time to do anything.

If you can't afford a room with balcony, save more money.
Waking up, stepping right out your room, and enjoying a cup of coffee on your balcony while watching the beautiful scenery.

Did it with my wife and two kids.

Best trip ever.

Glacier Bay. Mendenhall glacier. Watched glaciers calving. Saw whales. Rode the White Pass and Yukon railroad to Canada. Acadia National Park. Flew on a plane and landed on a glacier. Met a 4 time winner of the Idarod.

Majestic scenery you will never forget.

I have been to Hawaii, multiple Caribbean cruises and all over the U.S.

Nothing compares to Alaska.

Nothing.

Going onboard this one with the family in June.

Mariner

If you want small go to un cruise, I believe they are are operating a small ship I worked on in the 90's 138 passengers. They can go to some really great places the large one cannot.

We are doing an Alaskan cruise this summer and another next summer.

Both are on Celebrity. We got a great aft balcony for next summers cruise and a regular balcony for this summer. This summer's trip was last minute so couldn't book our preferred room.

This summer is out of Seattle while next summer will be out of Vancouver.
