You are kidding right? The difference in 12 million and 100 million (or even 50 million) is life changing money. If he signs for 12 million his agent will likely get 10%, his manager may get 10% and the tax man will get 50%. He would be lucky to walk with 5 million dollars (probably over a 5 year period). This is not "never have to work again money". If you change the contract amount to 50 million, he probably walks with 20 million and that is "never have to work again money" (even assuming he is a bust and makes no money in the NBA). If the reports are correct that his endorsement value has fallen from 100 million to 12 million that is huge for him (not to mention depressing and disappointing).
