they are more likely to know whoever is current in a sport they don't care about. If they don't care about soccer now, you think they care about who used to be good?
They know who they see highlights of on TV when watching sportscenter and it happens to take time away from REAL american sports and show a highlight of soccer.

what is more of a possible scenario in Arkansas with non soccer fans
"Hey bob this guy is asking me about a soccer player. Whats that chick that was on the cover of the swim suit issue, didn't she play soccer?" "Hope Solo, shes hot"
versus
"hey bob this guys asking me about a soccer player. Who's that guy that talks about soccer on the TV ever so often when that sport comes on the TV? "i don't know bill i usually go to the bathroom when those gheys are talking."

Yes, and those people that have made the most highlights are Dempsey, Bradley, and Howard.
They will also remember Donovan because he was making highlights for the previous 15 years in a row. I haven't watched a baseball game in 16 years , but I still know who A-rod is.
