Gotta respectfully disagree here. The new tennis and gymnastics facilities say otherwise.
Exactly. The headlines from LSUsports.net show both men's and women's teams winning their last matches. Both teams are ranked. LSU Tennis' improvement can be directly traced to the new facility.
We've all seen the upward trend in gymnastics since the new practice facility was announced. LSU now has the nicest gymnastic practice facility anywhere. And that's not just hyperbole.
Build it and they will come. If LSU shows it is serious about competing by offering recruits the opportunity to play and train in the best facilities, then whatever sport LSU has those nice facilities for will be competitive.
I've laid out the path in another thread that LSU will need to take to upgrade not just swimming and diving, but also volleyball and basketball.
A new swimming and diving facility in a new location is the first step. The current Natatorium needs to be demolished and a volleyball practice facility built in it's place, next to the old tennis center. Which will become the new beach volleyball facility.
After all that is done, after volleyball moves their practice facility out of the PMAC's walk-in basement, where it currently is now, then a really complete overall of the PMAC can begin.
This is going to be a long process. We've neglected our facilities too long. With all the money coming in from the SEC Network, and the athletic department being as profitable as it is, there is no excuse not upgrade these facilities and to finally catch up with our conference brethren.
