Don't see anything wrong with it. I'm a junior atmospheric sciences major currently but I'm looking into teaching high school math and coaching track and cross country after graduating. Just feel like that's my calling in life and where I'd be happiest.
If you want to be hired as a faculty TRACK coach for a HS, I can't stress enough how important it is for you to be certified to teach math.
You don't see a lot of "track only" coaches on the faculty rolls at schools. Being certified in math makes you much more valuable.
A 5A school will pay you about $60K your first year (including your coaching stipend)
Also be prepared to be asked to assist the Athletic director in some capacity beyond simply coaching your sport

Yea that's exactly what I'm planning on doing. With my atmos degree I'll have all the course work to be certified to teach math I'd just need to get my masters in education and take the praxis. My plan is to possibly get a grad assistantship coaching at a university and getting a masters in math to build my coaching resume up some and going from there.
Eta: that's solid advice though man thanks
