I was recruited 20 plus years ago. I wasn't a blue chip by any stretch of the imagination. I was, however, damn sure I was going to college to play football....not study. My mom, a school teacher, tried to beat it into my head that I needed to study more, do better on ACT, work as hard in class as I did on the field, blah blah blah, but I didn't hear it. Blew out my knee and the world came tumbling down. I preach to my kids, and any other kids that are within earshot, that one wrong step can end your athletic career, but your mind will carry you on, if you're prepared.

I imagine a college coach prefers kids who think they can go pro. Not sure I'd want too many kids if any at all who when asked answer "I think I'll be ok playing at college maybe, but no way I'll ever play beyond college". I'd want a kid who says "i know I have a lot of work to do to get there but I know I can go pro with hard work and training"
