Ive extra'ed on a few here in S. Louisiana.

The hourly rate sucks, like others have already said. Days are long. The big shots on the crew are often pompous assholes. I enjoyed fricking with them. They typically look straight past you when the camera isn't rolling. I would make a point to say "good morning" "hello" "beautiful weather today, right?" just to force a reaction out of them.

As an extra you are essentially cheap set props. Most any inanimate prop you would see is more expensive than your daily rate of around $100. All that being said they were neat experiences.

Met a few good buddies that I still keep in contact with. The other extras on the outdoor civil war movies were the coolest group.
