Just got off the phone with a source that, I assure you, trumps any source any of you have quoted. I have been reluctant to call him because I figured several others have. THIS IS NO JOKE! He did not give me any earth-shattering news, but he did clear up some falsehoods that have been spread on this board.
1) No one at LSU knows if Miles is leaving. (In other words, no "done deal")
2) LSU will make every effort to keep Miles, but most BOS members believe he will accept if UM offers.
3) Saban will NEVER get enough votes to be offered the job. At best, he would get 50%. My source is CERTAIN of this.
4) There have been NO negotiations with other coaches or their agents. Claims to the contrary are just BS.
5) It is true that Lombardi and Spurrier are friends, but there is no broad-based desire for LSU to hire him. In fact, there is a concern with his age, just as there is by many posters here. My source did not say he doesn't have a chance, just that he is not being pushed.
6) Much to my suprise, the source said there are some decision-makers who are "intrigued" with the possibility of hiring Tubby. No joke.
7) No word on Pelini, but he thinks someone will hire him as a HC, even if Nebraska does not.
Again I am NOT JOKING about this, although in the past I have made fun of those who claim to have "sources," most of whom are full of crap.

NEVER say NEVER. If the right people who can sign big checks to TAF, LSU, etc., want Saban as the coach, Saban can get the votes needed. Did you forget that we live in the "Buddy System" state?

This scoop sounds at the very least plausible and would match the type of language I would think would be be used around the situation right now.

This is BS. My sister is in the same sorority with Jack Del Rio's daughter and she told my sister that they already contacted her dad (Jack Del Rio).

If Saban can get 50%, he can get a majority with the right grease on the wheels...(Cash is a great form of grease).

Thanks for posting. I have to reply to my Nigerian Banker friend now...

Seriously. I hope you have a great source and continue to share information. Thanks.

Isn't Tuberville actively negotiating a contract with Arkansas/Auburn right now?

just shut up. it doesnt matter if you called skip or jesus christ himself, unless you are willing to name the source and provide some sort of proof, your 'assurances' will fall on deaf ears. you sound just as absurd as the rest of these nonsense rumors.

Now we can all go back to doing what we were doing an hour ago. Thanks for your shot of calmness to our calamity. It's much more easy to believe this than anything out there now.

This is probably true and is the most accurate sounding thing that I have heard. The other rumors that are being spread here are probably coming from different factions and involve what they want to see happen and are confident that it will happen. That's human nature, and sense we are dealing with a bunch of type A's, they probably think that if it is what they want, then it is going to happen.

I think that both Saban and Spurrier stay at their respective schools. I think that the powers that be at LSU know this and that is why they are trying to keep Les Miles. He is simply better than anyone else out there. If he goes to Michigan, which I think that he will, I think that we could be in trouble, at least in the short run. Del Rio could be an option, but we will have to wait until mid-January. Likely, we might have another candidate that we haven't even thought of.

The longer that this plays out, the more chance that the Saban group gains steam. Time will move more and more people to look at a Saban hire favorably. If we make the right offer and if he is really miserable at Bama, he might accept. Or, he might relish the opportunity to turn us down. Either way, if there is an active Saban group and Spurrier is out of it, that group will gain steam.

I say that we end up with another candidate though. Just some thoughts . . .
