You aren't going to win the national championship, but you get to hear your name called on selection Sunday and play on one of the biggest stages in sports. The first two days of the NCAA tornament, might as well be a national holiday.


Exactly this. It matters to these kids, and they did what was asked of them, but the rules always change for midmajors, while mediocre big conference teams can back in without a decent resume.

On top of that, the best thing about the tourney is Cinderella. That's a first weekend thing, before the big boys take center stage and get to the business of crowning a champ. The 2nd week is prose, the 1st week is poetry. We, as fans, are being robbed of our tourney experience. It sucks.

It can matter a great deal. VCU was a first four bubble team with far less skins on the wall than Monmouth has this year.
