Is really THAT great of a recruiter? Yes, compared to the previous coach. But nationally? Without a great Louisiana player (like Martin) or a significant family connection (like Simmons) he currently has a 5 man class ranked 53rd in the nation.

Even if we assume he's a great recruiter, what difference does it make if you squander the talent? Thus far he's still yet to accomplish even what the two previous coaches did at LSU - win a NCAA tournament game or a conf title. They certainly had their issues, but both Brady and Johnson did each within their first 4 years at LSU

Could LSU hire someone to do a better job (recruit, coach)? I doubt it.

I'm quite confident LSU could find another coach who could miss NCAA tournaments on a consistent basis and fail to ever win a game in the tournament. I like Jones on a personal level, but nothing in his 11 years at North Texas indicated he would have consistent success at a power conf. school. In fact, LSU was the ONLY power-conf school in which he was a head coaching candidate. That should tell you more than anything else.

One only has to ask two questions:

1. Is the goal at LSU to compete for championship?

2. If so, do you think Jones is the guy to accomplish that goal?

If the answer to #2 is no, then what is the rationale for him to remain the head coach?

You could ask the same about all three of our big sport coaches.

To give our AD another opportunity to demonstrate his lack of respect for the LSU Fan. In other words, results don't matter, as long as we are getting media hype. Just look at the other failed, bottom of the barrel sports programs at LSU. No coaching changes are being made. If he can't fix the minor sports, how is the world do you expect him to fix the major sports.

Never mind. I see this thread has been anchored. The ones that are on to something always are.
