I've got Sonos and love it for a few reasons. The sounds quality is really good with the soundbar and sub - certainly not "audiophile" quality, but way more than fine for normal living room sound. Secondly, it is simple to use. The wife can use an iphone app to control the whole thing (which is incredibly easy to use) versus a complicated programmable remote that essentially only I would know how to use.
If you're outfitting a true media room, I'd probably opt for your option 1. However, for any other typical application like a living room, Sonos is perfect.
