They say to practice the shite out of 3-7 feet until those are almost automatic. I mean non stop until you feel every putt from this range will go in no matter what. You can lag a few here and there for practice, but mainly practice 3-7 foot putts. It also helps seeing them go in from that range as opposed to practicing 15 footers and missing most of them.
Its better to practice success than failure when putting.
If you can become a machine from 3-7 feet you will be a great putter.

Ummm... is 15 feet not automatic for y'all? I'd say I make 75% from that distance (assuming it's not some weird Augusta National type break or painfully slow)
That said my dad always practiced/practices putting and the short game. He started playing when I was 5, and I never took a full swing until I was 12. So putting is by far the best aspect of my game. I legitimately can't remember the last time I had more than one three putt in a round.
That said, Everything outside of 100 yards is what gets me. I can hit my irons pretty consistently, and can drive the ball 250-275, but the odds of that being in the fairway, or even a fairway isn't great.

3-7 feet for sure. At one point in my life I had time to practice and play golf. I hit balls for 30 minutes and putted for as long as I could stand it. I'd practice putts up to 12 feet. The main thing I focused upon doing was keeping my eyes still. I'd focus on my aiming point and the ball then stroke it. Once the ball was well away I'd look to see if it went in. My handicap went from 15 to 6.
