A ton of those soldiers that survived that war came back mentally scarred for life.

This is greatly overexaggerated. The vast, vast majority of guys that came back were fully functional, contributing members of society...far, far better men than the protesting pothead zeros that never went. Don't let Hollywood's Rambo-style movies influence you.

It's not the movies that influenced me but the real life Vietnam veterans with mental issues that I've met that have. Don't be fooled into thinking a lot of young, misled men weren't psychologically screwed up by it. Since you brought of the pot smoking draft dodgers I will point out the fact that a lot of the Vietnam veterans came back drug addicted as well
They were probably gung ho and all for it going in though.....

Thank you! If you listened to Hollywood or popular culture every single soldier and Marine that stepped foot in South Vietnam came back a shell-shocked drug addict or spouse abuser.

When the numbers are in the millions, the circumstances of vast majorities don't negate the issues facing minorities.

I have spent enough time in VA and DoD hospitals to know that 'Nam took a serious toll on America. I can't imagine how fricked up the guys that carpet bombed Laos for a decade following our withdrawal from 'Nam became. I wonder if any of them realize that all those bombs they dropped are still detonating and killing Laosians today.
