I care. I would rather the government (and eventually hackers) not have the ability to break into my phone whenever they want.

You have two issues here.

Issue 1: Government Invasion-
I agree that the information contained on a smart phone is much more invasive than fifty years ago getting a wiretap. But from a legal standpoint, the public airwaves are being used, therefore the federal government has some oversight responsibility. Also there is a national security component to being able to review the information being exchanged. You can't have a 100% secure private communication system that uses federal airwaves.

Issue 2:
Private hacking. You think hackers aren't hard at work right now? Maybe the government having access might make their task easier but they (hackers) will hack ANY man-made system for the potential fiscal reward. Bringing this into the argument is a red herring.

I am one of those people who don't give a frick.
If it means they'll catch the real bad guys then go for it.

They can dig away through my pics of nekkid skanks and sexts and lengthy negotiations with ex wives over kids' school, schedules, practices.

The perception of liberty is subjective whereas Quoting Ben Franklin to apply to 2016 is stupid and that's not subjective.
