He's a great professional voice. The only thing that bothered me about the hire is that he doesn't have any LSU ties or fandom.

Kind of evident in that call. He's "excited" for show for his job, not because he's actually an LSU fan. Hopefully that's something that develops over the years.

What made Hawthorne great was his passion for LSU and how genuinely excited he was when something good happened, and how genuinely disappointed he was when something went wrong. It helped you feel like you were there and in the moment.

This. People can say what they want about Hawthorne, and a great deal of it is absolutely correct, but that man's passion was never in doubt and it is a huge reason that so many of his calls had that intangible "greatness" to them. That Warren Morris call. The Blue Grass Miracle call. So many calls where he was just dejected and pissed at a terrible play. It's something you just can't manifest without sincerity. Like you said, hopefully that will come in time with Blair, but it does appear to be missing (which is completely understandable given Blair's newness).

Can we have Blair calling play by play and just have Hawthorne in the booth for the occasional emotional outburst?
