Go read "Columbine" by Dave Cullen. It is the most comprehensive study and examination of the entire event, from the early warning signs to the aftermath.

Klebold was basically a depressed teenager that had the misfortune of befriending a psychopath like Harris. Klebold needed someone to take cues from and Harris was by all accounts incredibly charsimatic (as are most psychopathic individuals). Harris's plans to basically kill everyone on Earth fed right into Klebold's depression.

If there's anything his mom could have done, it would have been to get him into serious therapy asap or move. Obviously not something you just do to/for your kid, though, without some serious inclination for what's going on. Would be really interested to hear from Harris's dad (from what I recall reading, he was a staunch ex-military guy).

I'm pretty sure the Harris parents met with one of the victim's families (or more) in person. They acknowledging their son was a psychopath which can't be easy.

Harris was the Eddie Haskell of the 1990s.
