No tears shed here. I make roughly the same give or take 10K depending on bonuses. Wife makes 50k'ish.I have 4 kids, two in private school, two in daycare(cost about as much as private school). I save a minimum of 10% per paycheck and chip in 10% into 401k or stock options. My wife saves 10% per paycheck also. BUT we live an extremely modest life. As in house note is 800+/- and no other debts.(paid cash for cars, camp, etc.) It could all come to a screeching halt and we could live jobless for at least two years with no worries without touching 401k. I drive up and down Hwy 90 in Laffy and see all these guys at the various oil industry shops with $60k, $70k, $80k pickup trucks or guys I know with 20k side by sides and they make less then me......doesn't make sense. Or buying a 250000k house and only paying a 3% down payment bc it clears out the savings/checking account.
