Not saying they'll be out on the street or anything, and sure there are lots of people worse off. But it's a lot to be hit with in a short period of time. Significant lifestyle changes for all concerned. I guess I phrased it too dramatically.

He has experience and skills, sounds like his wife does too, unemployment will bring in some money and they will look for new work, relocation might be necessary. It's a big shock, but with the oil economy it's not uncommon. Buck up and and survive, the kids will be fine with out the privileged upbringing and it might teach them some life lessons.
