As I sit here looking back at my home from Dallas, TX I cannot feel anything but sadness this morning. So many friends I know used TOPS to get themselves out of poverty and into a job and role the felt respected with. You start taking away opportunities to move up in class and not only will this state lose out with enhanced brain drain, but also the white collar, high paying , corporations that come with the highly educated work force.

I was considering moving back home to New Orleans at some point in the future, but that dream is long gone now. I'll gladly pay 81 bucks to fly in on a weekend to NOLA to ensure that I stay in Texas so that my family gets to live in a state where you actually have a fighting chance to move up in.

I'm an Electrical Engineer, graduated from the UT system. Graduate of West Jefferson High School 2004.

Sad day today :( .

One thing I wonder is how much (if any) has TOPS caused the increase in tuition, fees, etc over the last 15-20 years.

From a supply and demand point of view, TOPS should increase the demand for college, since it gives more individuals the means to attend. An increase in demand leads to an increase in price.

Also higher Ed officials know they will receive a lot of their tuition payments from TOPS (guaranteed money until now) so why not increase tuition?
