As an outside sales rep I have actually had a pit rip a pants leg, and a mutt bite my ankle. In both cases I was not in "neutral" territory, and the dogs reacted before the owner could respond. But, if I was simply walking or jogging I can see this scenario easily playing out. Unfortunately in my neck of the woods the meaner the dog the better it seems. And not all owners are responsible owners.

I guess they are lucky they didn't have to be a mailman or paperboy back in the day. I was a paper boy in the late 60s, was chased by dogs on a daily basis. Pitbull, Doberman, Rottweiler, mutts, you name it, been chased by all kinds. Was more afraid of our boss getting a call from some old lady about not getting her paper than the dogs.
