As far as Anchorage, are there areas I should stay away from? What about areas I should be looking into?
ETA: Seems like from my research to stay away from areas with -view in the name.

Avoid the areas near the base. Mountain View, Russian Jack Springs. 4th Avenue at night is a bit rough.
Everything else is fine.
