Drive if you can.
Honestly, if you don't mind the commute move to Palmer. It's absolutely gorgeous, has some great people there and housing is a lot less expensive than Anchorage or Eagle River. Eagle River/Chugiak is nice, but pretty expensive.
Palmer is about 8 miles from Wasilla but a world apart. Has a lot of recreational activity, two glacial rivers running through it and surrounded on 3 sides by 6,000' peaks.
Go have an Alaskan Amber at Klondike Mikes for me
You're in for an adventure.
As for clothing, just get what you need when you get here. You'll find a lot of folks wear Carhartts and dress is very casual, even in professional circles. Anchorage is full of good outdoor clothing stores.

That's what I'm hoping to do...got to talk to HR and see if they will allow it.
I'm going to be moving with the bare minimum (TV, handmade pallet table, guns, wildlife painting, etc,)
I'm definitely looking at Palmer or Wasilla for permanent dwellings.

Is it more or less expensive for clothing in the CONUS? or is the price relatively the same?

you have that right...looking at houses now in Palmer after getting a realtor to send me houses in Anchorage/Eagle River first.
Super disappointed in the Anchorage housing market. Eagle River is ok in some places.
Have an interesting house or two in Chugiak.
Really have my eyes on a house in Palmer once I get up there on May 3rd/4th.
Have everything set for travel.
Going from Baton Rouge to Dallas.
Dallas to Amarillo.
Amarillo to Denver.
Denver to Idaho Falls. Spend the weekend in Idaho Falls and use it as a jumping point to Yellowstone.
Idaho Falls to Couer D'Alene,ID or Spokane,WA.
Couer D'Alene,ID/Spokane,WA to Bellingham,WA.
Taking the ferry to Haines,AK, then on my way to Anchorage the next two days!
The feds got me a 4 room cabin in the ferry. Question though! Are those private rooms?
