Zack Snyder is straight full of shite. His basic response to anyone who criticized Man of Steel was essentially to try and claim he was being more true to the comics and people who didn't like it were butthurt that it wasn't like the Donner flicks which is incredibly arrogant and dismissive. He did a similar thing w/Watchmen when it didn't do as well as Warner hoped and started saying people simply didn't understand that it was satire.

Then, for him to have the balls to dismiss Marvel flicks as flavor of the week type movies when he is directing a flick that is incredibly overstuffed w/characters and being made by Warner Bros specifically b/c The Avengers was so successful shows such an incredible lack of self awareness that its hard to take anything he says w/o a MASSIVE grain of salt.
