Doug Flutie was just on local radio talking about this. He said the coaches had no faith in Fuller or Tomczak when McMahon got hurt in '86, so he had to come in at the end of the season and try to QB a team of massive egos as an outsider.

He said there were a lot of cliques that believed they were the reason they won the Super Bowl. He also mentioned locker room fights over endorsement deals. Not to mention Buddy was gone and free agency began to hit them after '86.
