When I bought my truck and my wife's SUV, I had the option to use the GM family discount due to my uncle retiring from GM. What I found was that I was able to get a better price with the discounts at the time than I would have been able to get using the GM discount which is not much for a nephew. They are typically in my experience willing to deal a little more because the GM family plan sets the price and that is the price they get and that point they will not negotiate anymore. I had the paperwork filled out if the negotiations stalled and the Family price would have been cheaper
