Thanks, Scuba. It's nice to see McKay out there, I'd been wondering about him ever since he disappeared during the fall. Also good to see Bain back from his surgery.

It was pretty sloppy out there, today. Along with the fielding errors, there were a couple of base running misques.

I thought McKay had a mid 90s fastball.

I was out there for practice and the first 1/2 inning or so of the scrimmage. Lots of sloppy fielding. Lochridge's glove did not look good today.

How do the shortstops look defensively? Good range and arms?

McKay has been consistently in the 87-89mph range during fall and spring scrimmages.

Dawson has been pretty solid with the glove and throws. His offense has been somewhat weak, so far, but I think he has potential. He had an errant throw to first today on a potential double play, which I ruled an error on Deichmann, who failed to stop the ball, allowing the runner to advance.

Reid hasn't impressed me very much defensively.

They are the only two to play SS since the early fall scrimmages.

Nothing wrong with that at this point. Dunn keeps the younger guys away from throwing 100%. You can look back at Lange's numbers at this time last year and they weren't lighting anything up. Does that mean McCay throws 95 in 3 weeks? No. But I wouldn't read too much into the MPH totals.

Scuba, did you stay until after the scrimmage was over yesterday when Alan Dunn called the pitchers together on the infield and lit into them for their sloppy performance during the scrimmage? It was after Mainieri did his usual end-of-practice huddle with the entire team. Dunn was hot.

Mainieri said afterwards he was going to steer clear of AD until he had a chance to cool off. From the grandstand I could hear Dunn saying some words they don't teach in Sunday school.

Bain 91 mph - Good velocity - hope he returns to form quickly

Bain 3BB 1HBP - Glad it's early February

Bugg 86 mph 4H - Yikes

No, I didn't stay to see that. I don't know why but I always leave right after coach calls it a game. I believe that coach Mainieri was pretty frustrated as well by the sloppy performance by most of the team. That's why he ended it the way he did.

Yeah, he looked pretty animated but I couldn't hear what he was saying. Dunn was clearly audible. And I didn't see any of the pitchers try to interrupt him while he was talking.

One of the pitchers (who didn't pitch in the scrimmage yesterday) told me afterwards it's the maddest he's ever seen Dunn get at the pitchers after a scrimmage.
