Ok coach, what if the talent is making shots? Example being Blakeney and Sampson.quote:
It's not just a matter of making or missing shots. LSU has a guy with court vision that exceeds just about every player in college basketball and probably many in the NBA. Yet, there is very little movement by anyone away from the ball and guys are just left free to roam around aimlessly, destroying the spacing in the process. Guys pass it to a teammate then just stand in place or make a lazy move to nowhere in particular. Several times you'll have two guys inadvertently end up in the same spot. Watch Simmons when he has the ball at the point. So many times he's desperate for someone to cut hard to the basket or to an open spot. On they few occasions that flash hard to the basket (Hornsby in particular) Simmons finds them for an easy two. Simmons is ALWAYS looking to set someone else up. The problem is that far too many times his teammates are just standing-still staring at him while he's trying to do so.
It's also about timely decision making. Going into that press last night while up by double digits was a dumb move. Sometimes the simplest things are not so simple for this team. I like the win, but am looking at problems down the line against better coached and talented teams.
