The Alex food scene is way ahead of where it was just 5-6 years ago
how so?
serious question as I'm always looking for new places to try when I go home to Alex

We are just a couple of more local places away from being pretty comparable to Monroe
Alex has nothing remotely comparable to Cotton or Nonna like Monroe.

Embers, Wildwood, Verona, sombreros, new Spirits menu and fairly new location, mama and Papas pizza, Atwoods breakfast and lunch menu, Good Peoples Kitchen, word of Mouth, beer at Finnegan's, Caro Mexican food hut. Great new crawfish place in Hotheads. People can minimize the above but all have added certain dimensions and needed options
Live music offerings constantly at Embers and Spirits
As far as Nonna, ambiance aside the food at Verona is as good or better.
Cotton is good. Janohns is pretty comparable in many ways
