Rock radio has pretty much died and those that still like it are listening to Sirus XM Octane/Faction/Liquid Metal. All of the rock exclusive fests have partnered with them and don't really lean on the few terrestrial stations that are left. There are some huge festivals still alive like Rock on the Range that fills up the soccer stadium in Columbus every May - last year they had about 70k and the headliners were Slipknot/Judas Preist/Linkin Park. I thought about going this year but am going to wait to see what some of the smaller fests like Rocklahoma, Louder than Life, Carolina Mayhem, etc are lining up.

All of those American rock festivals drew huge numbers last year. The American rock festival scene is not on par with Europe and I doubt it will ever get there, but its growing. Mayhem Fest is gone but there are new smaller festivals popping up every year.
