Because they coddle the better players and dont teach any fundamentals or teach them to execute offensively of defensively. Also, it is very watered down because every dad/uncle has a team and they throw them together as quickly as they fold. Also give the kids inflated egos that the high school coaches have to get back in check because their is no accountability because they will jump from team to team.

My cousin who is a very good high school coach refuses to let any of his players play AAU basketball for every reason you mentioned. Its all true, and he has removed a few good players from his team because of it.

and all the elite players travel the country playing one another, therefore crappy players play in crappy tournaments against other crappy players and never get any better.
