AAU is about dunks/ highlight reels; not developing any skill.

Which is why a lot of guys who are in it are either terrible from the line or the field

There is very little team play and defense, which are critical pieces to becoming a good basketball player. AAU is for "a player trying to get his", leading to more flash instead of developing the fundamental pieces of their game.

It is why you have players like Rajon Rondo who can dribble and do flashy things, but can't hit the broad side of a barn shooting. Guys can do 360 dunks, but barely shoot 50% from the FT line.

AAU is basically pickup games with the same jersey on.
