Non-hostile is pretty self explanatory, you haven't shot anyone.

Hostile is when you've shot someone a few times, but not enough to go rogue. There is a damage threshold you need to pass in order to go rogue. When going hostile you get a little warning saying you are attacking a non-hostile and continuing to do so will turn you rogue.

Rogue rank 0. This is the rank you get when you do enough damage to go rogue, but don't kill anyone. This is different from ranks 1-5. I believe this rank was added to the game to be the "oh shite, i'm sorry, i didn't mean to do that" rank. Your counter is a mere 20s. You have a skull above your head but no bars encircling it.

Rogue rank 1-5. To go from rogue rank 0 to rank 1, you don't need to kill someone, you need to down them. Killing that same person won't promote you to rank 2. To go from rank 1 to rank 2, you need to kill someone (other than person you downed to get to rank 1). At the higher ranks you've killed people and your rank reflects how many people you've killed and your timer increases with each rank. At rank 1 your timer is 90s, rank 2 120s, rank 3 160s, rank 4 240s, and rank 5 300s.

When Rogues and non-hostiles attack each other: When a Rogue rank 0-5 is in combat with another player, their timer pauses until they are out of combat. When they pass the damage threshold on a non-hostile player, their timer resets and when they kill them their rank goes up by 1 and their timer increases to reflect the new rank. At rank 5, killing a player resets the timer. When one person goes rogue, the entire team goes rogue. However, when one member of the team kills someone and increases their rank all team members also go up in rank IF they are within a certain range. (I'm going to definitively test all of this in the beta, but I've seen everything above happen in various videos and believe my reasons why are as accurate as possible right now).

When a non-hostile attacks a rogue rank 1-5, they don't go rogue and can kill the rogues freely.

When a non-hostile attacks a rogue rank 0 who didn't go rogue on them, they can go rogue. (Three people A, B and C. A goes rogue on B but does not kill B. A is rogue rank 00. B can now kill A and B won't turn rogue. If C attacks A, C will turn rogue.) Be careful if you happen to find a rogue rank 0 who has done no damage to you. The only visual difference between a rogue rank 0 and a rogue rank 1 is the addition of a bar partially around the skull. This only applies if that person didn't go rogue 00 NEAR you.
