why not just run a doorbell switch with 300-400 feet of light wire from the trap to the cabin. door closes bell rings inside. there are also wireless door bell set ups but have no clue as too range

this is actually a damn good idea...all you would need is a switch on the door to see when it is open/closed....that would put all of the electronics, etc at your house so there would be no need for power or cell signal at the trap.
