Right now mods are overwhelmingly the most effective way to strengthen your squad, until they nerf them. For example, I only have 2 mods on my Fives and his health is 37k and protection is 34k. My Yoda has speed 174.
If you plan on continuing to play the game, you should get as many tier 5 mods as you can right now. Play the mod battles through 3G, then play the mod challenges to get tier 5 mods and just farm them. There's no telling what these devs will do next.
