My wife had Hellp Syndrome during the birth of our son. After he was born, the placenta was still effecting my wife's blood pressure very negatively and rapidly, so the doctor didn't want to wait for her body to flush it out. So he basically had to manually detach and remove the placenta.

Aww hell no. Kind of surprised they'd let her do natural childbirth with HELLP, I would think that would elevate BP even more. I had HELLP as well, and they couldn't get me on the phone when the doc saw on test results that my liver enzymes were 14x higher than normal. So they called my husband at work to get me to hospital. Baby's HB was slowing slightly so they did urgent C section nearly 4 weeks premature. Scariest day in both our lives for sure.

ETA: nvm, Google search says for most cases that are mild to moderate, regular childbirth is ok. Wow!
