OK, let me try to make this easy to understand:
Put everything back just like it's shown in pic #2, with the blue ethernet cord running from the modem into the "special" port on the router. Then get a second ethernet cord and run it from your computer into one of the 4 ports labeled "ethernet" on the router. And you're done.

that's what I did a couple days ago. I plugged a cat 5 (?) cable into Ethernet port 1 on the router and into my computer
the internet went down. I thought it was possibly a coincidence. but then someone posted in this thread that would make the internet mess up
frick it, i'll just watch shitty streaming. besides I think my stepdad took my cable because I was gonna take a pic and can't find it
