A season in which there was no major conference undefeated teams? Every year people freak out and say this is they're but it never happens. It sorts itself out. Hell bama hasn't made it undefeated since 2009

Only 3 major conference teams finished undefeated in 2009 (pre-bowls): Texas, Alabama, & Cincinnati. I use the term "major conference" loosely because the Big East was about to lose its automatic qualifier status. They were a mid-major conference in all but name.
Boise State was WAC, TCU was MWC.
Far from your doomsday scenario of 5 undefeated P5 teams (and an undefeated ND). Hell, Texas & Alabama were both incredibly fortunate to be undefeated that year, too.
