It's amazing that people still think this is a good idea.
Not every team is in a conference, and a conference championship refers to a fraction of a team's season. Just take the best however many teams regardless of conference affiliation. Jesus.

Nah. They've been right both times.
You do realize that the Ohio State got in solely on playing in the Big 10 Championship, winning, and becoming conference champions, right?

Going into the final week, OSU had a better record but slightly lower SOS than TCU, and it shook out with TCU slightly ahead; the Massey Composite, full of 100 different ranking systems, showed a majority alignment with this. In the final week, TCU played weak Iowa State, and OSU played strong Wisconsin. This bumped OSU's SOS a smidge ahead of TCU's, and when you combine that with the fact that 12-1 > 11-1, a vast majority of ranking systems put OSU ahead.
Ohio State got in ahead of TCU because they had a better record and tougher schedule. Turn off ESPN and get out a calculator. The committee got it right.
