Not every team is in a conference, and a conference championship refers to a fraction of a team's season. Just take the best however many teams regardless of conference affiliation. Jesus.

You do realize that the Ohio State got in solely on playing in the Big 10 Championship, winning, and becoming conference champions, right?

Keeping the BCS and going to 4 teams would have been ideal. It seems highly unlikely that the playoff committee did not consider this and chose the current format for financial reasons. That leaves me skeptical that they will make their decisions based on the integrity of the game.

And the "teams left out" point extends infinitely; going to 8 teams isnt gonna reduce the gray area.
