I believe aggravated battery is battery with a weapon, and the second degree portion means he either disfigured his face, broke a bone, or knocked him out. I may be wrong though.

Even fists used to disfigure someone is a serious charge. Felony, I believe.

Aggravated second degree battery is with use of a dangerous weapon when the offender intentionally inflicts serious bodily injury.

Can be knocked unconscious, extreme physical pain or obvious disfigurement.
