Rewatching Rome - Is pulling plug the only thing keeping it from elite status

To me the first season is up there with things like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc.

Are whatever troubles they had with HBO that led to the truncated and rushed season 2 the only thing that kept it from the very top levels?

Yes, could have been the GOAT with a full 4 or 5 seasons.

I love season 1.

Even though they merged 2 & 3 I really don't think I would have liked any of the plots even fleshed out.

Season 1 was fun. It was like an old Bing & Bob road movie. Well, a road movie with plenty of sex and gore.

The entire plot of 2 was too much misery and none of the Vorenus & Pullo road show.

Yes was freaking awesome, sad to see the state of HBO Series right now besides GOT could give two shits for Leftovers, Silicone etc..

Absolutely. It was well casted and well written. You could absolutely tell they had to rush it to close it out.

They had actually talked about a Rome film but the whole elaborate Italian set burned to the ground in 2008.
