Took my wife to shoot my S&W M&P Shield 40 this morning. She didn't have an issue with the recoil, said it was less than she thought it would be in fact, but she didn't have the thumb strength to release the slide using the release nor was it easy for her to rack the slide.

Disclaimer: The gun is brand new. I put 100 rounds through it a week ago. Maybe the release will lighten up after some more usage. Any of you other Shield owners find it difficult to use the slide release?

Have her hold slide solid with left hand and keep it still. Then PUSH grip with right hand. Should be easier for her to move

Yes. I've run about 150 rounds thru and it seems like it has loosened up a tad. Hopefully it will even more down the road. It's my wife's, and I know she struggles with it much more than my 1911.

To the OP....I ran my wife thru about 10 different semis to let her find the best fit for her. She settled on the 9mm Shield. She loves it. Fits her hand well, light recoil and she is very accurate with it. I enjoy shooting it as well. It's a nice gun for her first.
