To me it reinforced that Finn was never stormtrooper material. Doesn't help that the stormtrooper was obviously comfortable with that bludgeon, and Finn had never used a light saber before.

Weren't they supposed to be specially selected and extensively trained since childhood?

I find it hard to believe that they failed to weed out such glaring character flaws for a stormtrooper.


But I'm guessing Affirmative Space Action had something to do with it. Seeing as how Captain Phasma gave in without even a hint of a fight. The Empire has fallen mightily.

Finn was the ideal trooper actually. Well they thought he was. I hate that the movie didn't show this more but he was one of their best in testing.
