Why are the character constantly talking?

Cocaine had a writing credit.

Laugh tracks were the norm back when the show was made, so they had to slowly mix the sound to get rid of it. It's not like today, where we are used to no laugh tracks. That was the way shows were made back then, and this was one of the first shows to get rid of it.

This.

Plus, the show is so fricking great that the laugh track is sort of irrelevant (and disappears eventually like someone said).

SportsNight is one of the best/my favorite sitcom-type shows of all time. The characters, the pace, the writing, the acting, etc...just all really well done. It's a shame it never truly found a wide audience, because I loved it when it aired on TV.

I did a rewatch of it a few years ago, and it really holds up well. Admittedly, some of the stories in S2 are a little weird, but I chalk that up to the show being cancelled and them having to find a way to end it.

All in all, really fantastic show though.

And this is what I said about the laugh track in January of 2013:

One thing about it that is kinda weird is that there isn't a laugh track per se, but sometimes you can hear some audience chuckling. But not all the time. It kinda stands out, especially since nowadays shows are going away from that formula.

It would be better if it were completely without it IMO. But it doesn't really bother me though.

And has Baloo mentioned the Cutman yet?
