Predictions on Star Wars Ep 8 and 9 (TFA spoilers obviously and warning TLDR)

Based upon what happened in TFA and how Abrams used the Legacy of the Force EU series as inspiration (though twisting the details like he did with the Star Trek reboot), my prediction on the direction of the Star Wars Universe is this:
1. We find out Ben Solo (aka Kylo) turned and killed the other pupils. Luke's wife, let's call her Mara, intervenes to stop Kylo from killing her daughter Hope (who was previously trained by Luke). In the process Kylo struggles with his decision and accidentally kills Mara. Filled with grief, he sees Hope and decides to spare her and runs. Luke returns to see his daughter left in the bloodbath and all she says is "Ben". In order to protect her, Luke takes her to the Jedi island and locks away her memories (along with part of the map to find him again in R2D2) and hides her away on Jakku (because it worked for him).
2. We learn Luke returned to the original Jedi temple and waited for the awakening, all the while guiding Hope, now Rey, from afar via the force. When the time came, aka the darkside grows, Luke guided her Obi style to the lightsaber to jolt her force abilities with the remnants of Anakin's and his training/battles. What seemed preternatural about Ray's quick force abilities was really Luke enhancing her and protecting her. When the time came, Luke reactivated R2D2 and led her back to him for training.
3. At this point, Rey is on the island training with Luke but finding herself suddenly struggling to grasp the force. Luke explains that she must learn to master the force "without him" for one day he will not be there (prepping for his death).
4. Kylo, on the other hand, is driven by further grief and rage after the events of TFA. His insecurities drive him in training and we find out snoke's backstory (I am hoping he is tied to the Knights of the Old Republic and an admirer of Revan, since Kylo's outfit looks just like Revan and Revan led the Knights of Revan ala the Knights of Ren). In same fashion, this pain begins to push Kylo into a whole other level of Skywalker force power. He truly starts to enter his own but deep down he isn't fully committed because of the last look Han gave him before he died.
5. Fast forwarding I see Ren or Rey ultimately leaving their prospective light side/dark side path for something way more powerful - the unifying force. The only true mythical force left in the Star Wars universe. This is the Force of both light and dark and it would take the ultimate master, the master of all, to wield it. I really think this was foreshadowed in their first duel in TFA. Recall the scene where they are both fighting for each saber and we see both colors extended out being held by both of them.
All in all, I think the unifying force and the mythos behind ancient characters predating the OT will be discussed.

Sounds good. I think a unifying force would be great. The one who mastered both sides would make for a pretty interesting storyline.
They covered some of that in the Clone Wars series and Anakin was offered the position as the one who maintains balance but he turned it down.
If that series remains canon, there may still be one individual out there who commands both dark and light.

That's an interesting question - the clone wars series was not considered EU - I believe that was considered canon iirc.

Clone wars is canon

Then the unifying force is canon
Get ready for a wild ride

That's what I thought. Awesome this offers a great opportunity. It also gives a chance to see some new force powers that combine both light and dark.

I think Episode VIII will be a parallel story following both Rey's and Kylo Ren's training only to intersect at the end, with Kylo being far more dangerous and more composed than he was in the last film. Also expect for some wacky side adventure with Poe and Finn where they are trying to overcome the remnants of the First Order.
Episode IX obviously Rey will have to confront Snoke. I also think that come Episode IX, the lightsaber will be entirely deemphasized. Really, a fully realized Force User should be able to control all matter, energy, and emotions from what we've been told about the Force. I think Luke should be so powerful at this point if an entire battalion of Stormtroopers came down on him, he could stop all their blasts cold in their tracks and bring the Stormtroopers instantly to their knees. Only someone of Snoke's power should be able to stand up to him. Thus a lightsaber for Luke would be entirely pointless, and the lightsaber should be more like training wheels before becoming fully realized in the Force. I expect Rey and Kylo to achieve this sort of power by the end, and the duel will be entirely different from ones we've seen in the past to where it's more like an epic psychic showdown.

aka, a CGI orgy

So how else do you do it?
Or, maybe it is all mind stuff and very little CGI at all, kind of like what we saw in TFA?
If this story arc is true, then TFA makes a lot more sense, Han's death and love becomes the splinter in Ren's mind driving him mad (to borrow from the Matrix), and everything that happened leads to an ultimate conclusion.
That would all be amazing. I am all for it.

i'm of the group that feels that if lightsabers were enough for luke v. vader/palpatine, they're good enough for this trilogy

I actually think that scene entirely emphasizes that they weren't good enough for Palpatine. He clearly looks at them as toys and is very condescending to both Luke and Vader for using lightsabers. The Emperor is not nervous with having two people who want him dead armed with lightsabers around him, because one of them is all too aware of how powerful he actually is and the fact that lightsabers really wouldn't affect him. The duel is just a pleasant distraction for the Emperor, and that's really it.

I predict that Rey uses a double bladed saber when she makes hers. Not a huge stretch since she has that staff with her everywhere she goes.

I don't really like that concept. I don't think it adds anything to her character. Kylo's flawed lightsaber highly adds to his and is a major source of his frustration, but I'd rather not get flashbacks from the prequels if I can help it. I wouldn't be pissed if this happened, but I don't see the point.

well vader went more basic than a lightsaber to kill him so...

That's really my only problem with that scene to be honest.

That reminds me. What the hell was that stormtrooper carrying that he fought Finn with? The little spinny, blocky thing?
That might have been the moment that the movie jumped the shark for me.

i never took palpatine to be more powerful than vader. i just took him to be a manipulator and mentor of vader
vader didn't want to be the military of bureaucratic leader. he was just the head of the elite special forces of the empire. he was like the religious leader and symbol establishing the power of the empire for palpatine. i actually think the death star was kind of a competition with vader for that symbol, and vader "wins" b/c the dark side is more powerful than mechanical means
again, going back to the whole mythology of the force/dark side
the biggest sin of the OT was going back to the "Dark star well" (Which this movie did as well )

yes that was utterly retraded
finn wielding a light saber generally was super retarded, but a trooper dropping his gun to fight a light saber with some imperial mace? wow
*ETA: probably a new toy
