It's not about getting is right.
But if I take the time to buy someone something useful, and they give me a foot warmer/massger, just don't bother.
Like already mentioned, donate that money and save me the time of going and getting you something practical and awesome.

I usually get a bunch of wine and liquor and candles and candies and smell good stuff and the like. Maybe something more thoughtful for those I care about.
I figure it like this. I could piss away a few hundred dollars on concert tickets or a bottle of scotch or a night out...or I could think about all the people that have supported me throughout my life and are near and dear to me and share that bounty with them.
I'll get presents for friends too. Leave stuff on doorsteps.
It makes me feel good. Even if they don't know it was me
