It was a stupid marketing decision to continually repeat: THE STORY THAT INSPIRED MOBY DICK.

The general public immediately associates moby dick with a long and boring thing no one cares about.

Why not bill it as a survival piece about human spirit and grit or something like that.

Agreed. They think, "I had to read that shite in school" or "I saw that movie decades ago."

The book was fascinating. I hope to catch the movie in the theater.
