Franks was wavering on his commitment before all of this coaching talk began and you usually would try and replace a head coach with another established head coach, that I don't see how they wouldn't be under contract and wouldn't have anything to do with it anyway? So no, I don't see any irony.

The HC you wanted was under contract that he should be honoring instead of looking for a another job.. like a committment.
