What is the best way to get into watching and learning all the rules and shite?
There are basically two rules, offsides and don't clip (kick) a player while trying to win the ball. Also the ball is considered out of play once it crosses the line; a player on the ball can be over the line and still be considered in play as long as the ball doesn't cross over.
It's a lot like hockey in a sense that it is free flowing, fluid, not very many times they stop play for reviews or commercials like in other sports.
Yeah there are not loads of scoring but if you take it for what its worth, 90 minutes of nonstop play, maybe a goal here or there, or a few moments of great play or individual skill regardless if they score from it, you can enjoy it. Remember it is the ultimate team sport, you can have the greatest player in the world on an average team, but go up against a great team with avergage players, the GOAT player will lose (see Portugal v USA in last WC). That is what makes soccer the best game to watch in the world. Don't expect tons of goals but enjoy the indivuadual battles and display of skill that is involved.
